In the very early hours of 13th May 2011 three young orphaned African elephants stepped into a vehicle, some with gentle persuasion, that would take them to Tsavo National Park and the next stage in their journey back to the wild.
Olare, Kibo and Kandecha are orphan elephants, given a second chance at life through the efforts of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Beginning at the DSWT's Nursery in Nairobi, these elephants have been afforded everything they need to develop and grow as elephants, both physically and emotionally.
As their tusks begin to show and they start to show greater wild elephant behaviour it is time to move them to Tsavo National Park, where the DSWT operates two reintegration centres. From here they will return to the wild, where they belong.
This short film shows the journey to Ithumba for Olare, Kandecha and Kibo and the amazing greeting received on arrival at Ithumba. Where those that had embarked on the same journey years before them were ready and waiting for their arrival.
Yes, I also sponsor Kibo and loved to see this short video about his progress. What a wonderful job the DSWT does with these orphans. It's so miraculous to see these baby elephants thrive while in the care of their keepers, while enjoying time with other elephants.

I would like to say thank you to DSWT for this video and to see that Olare and the rest of the orphan elephants are making such good progress.
We hope to be in Kenya next year, and a visit to the orphanage is high on our list.
We wish you all at DSWT best wishes and support for such a worthwhile project

I also adopted Kibo and am happy to know that he along with the others will by way of our support grow to be as big and beautiful as he can possibly be. I hope we all can continue to support as many orphans as possible

I currently support and also adopted Kibo, he has grown so much and looks so great and healthy. I plan on in the future to go and visit him. I'm so happy that he and all the elephants are doing so well!

We were amazed to see how Kibo had grown from when we saw and sponsored him in 2009. I think the David Sheldrick Orphanage works miracles. When I see all these elephants it brings tears in my eyes. Keep up the great work.
