CONTEXTUAL APPRECIATION: Pre-liberalization era (1969) when profit-obsessed factory owners can do anything. They conspire against the protagonist, who, by accident, has married into a very wealthy woman. She has foresaken all her wealth for her beloved. They beget a child, and, due to the factory lockout, are unable to feed their child. She sings a lullaby to calm the child, and her husband too, as expected of her role as a Tamil wife. Sharda wins a national award for her role in this movie!
