Ernst Udet - Wunder des Fliegens (Clip 1 of 9)

Excerpt from a 1935 German film promoting the Luftwaffe. The famed WWI ace, Ernst Udet, has a prominent role inspiring Heinz (Jurgen Ohlsen), a teenager, to realize his dreams of becoming a pilot.

This first clip shows Udet happening across a group of young boys flying a kite. I don't know German all that well, but I gather that Heinz's father was also a pilot in the war and died, and Udet knew him from the old days. So he takes Heinz for a ride in his Flamingo.

Na, das ist doch Quex! Komisch, dass Jürgen Ohlsen in Nazi-Propagandafilmen mitgespielt hat, war eigentlich ein Bündischer.

Das solche Filme dem Volk vorenthalten werden, ist idiotisch. In einer Demokratie sollte es doch möglich sein, dass diese Filme gezeigt werden, damit man sich eine Meinung bilden kann. Verschweigen hat doch schon immer geschadet. Keine gesunde Demokratie, wie schon zu Weimarer Zeiten... Das heutige Fernsehprogramm (Bohlen, Raab) ist demagogischer und schädlicher.

Funny how if the pilot has killed 60+ people in air combat we may be more trusting to let the kid fly with him..

mein uropa hat 1914 gemeinsam mit udet einen brennenden munitionswagen von der straße geräumt weil es sich sonst keiner getraut hat- kurz darauf is er explodiert aber meinem uropa is nix geschehn und er hat das eiserne kreuz bekommen^^ ich liebe diese geschichte
