Queen's Day

Tomorrow it is Queen's Day, there's one more day to go
The old queen's birthday, Koninginnedag, April three-o
A big old bash, a sell out sale, it's the only show in town
Get with the program, check out the sights, let that old hair down

Tomorrow it is Queen's Day, I've put some change aside
For a kid with a violin murdering the national anthem outside
Paint your face, don dumb hats, both are winners that's for sure
Sling your junk, find a real deal, drink some dodgy orange bitter

Tomorrow it is Queen's Day, to the big park we will ride
On our bikes me and my wife, our kid, to check out the great deals there inside
Then it's back home with our stuff, eat some lunch, then let's not forget
It's off to my in-laws for drinks and snacks, two nicer folks I've never met

My friend Ford came once for Queen's Day and he arrived the night before
Off of the train out of the station not knowing what was in store for him
Hordes of late-nighters, obnoxious, in your face, drunker they could not get
By the time he got to our place he was pale faced, pissed off and soaked in sweat

So I gave him a scotch, that calmed him down, told him once a year it's allowed
And the next day, Queen's Day, we went out and cruised the crowds
Through mobs dancing to crap house music which for some unknown reason sounded great
Me and my friend Ford shared a laugh, a bite to eat and a drink or two (or eight?)

On the next day it'll be over, the mess left behind not to be believed
The streets, a sea of plastic cups, of their contents long relieved
Beat, burned out, it's back to basics, back to our responsible ways
One whole more year you gotta wait, and I'm counting the days
