If dancers interpret the circumstances of their lives into movement, then Roger Sinha brings a range of cultures with him to the stage every time he performs. Born in London to an Armenian mother and Indian father, Sinha arrived in Saskatchewan at the age of eight. From there, he moved to Toronto in his early twenties, where an economics degree fell by the wayside when he discovered dance classes. For Sinha, dance provided a means to reconnect with his heritage, and he soon specialized in the Southern Indian form known as Bharata Natyam. Drawn to Montreal in the '80s by the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault -- a meeting point for many of Montreal's dancers -- Sinha Sinha incorporates aspects of martial arts, ballet, and contemporary dance into the traditional forms that create the basis for his choreography.
