Awakened by a neighbor banging on his door as smoke detectors sounded, Richard Brow escaped from his burning Braintree home early Sunday, moments before it was engulfed in flames.
Brow ran out the side door to safety as the neighbor Bri an Wilcox, 28, who lives across the street, shouted and banged on the front door and windows. "He was very lucky," Fire Chief Kenneth J. McHugh said Sunday afternoon of Brow's escape, as McHugh supervised the investiga tion and cleanup at 477 Elm St.

This guy deserves to be honored for his actions. There is no doubt that the occupant of that building would not have survived if he stayed in that building any longer. The fire raced up the exterior wall of that building and the second floor became an inferno in just a few minutes. If firefighters had to make a rescue on the second floor of that building, the possibility of injury or death to the occupant or the firefighters was almost a certainty. Mr. Wilcox is a hero.
