The DFO made a small effort to help the whale but the first nations on Vancouver Island protested it because they thought this mammal was a reincarnation of some chief. They are just as much to blame for this as the DFO is. Superstition is something humanity should get rid of

This whale died because the aboriginal community on Vancouver Island did not want anyone to relocate the animal because they thought it was a reincarnation of some chief. When will humanity finally come to terms with these mammals... They're organisms that evolved over time... They're not people and the aboriginal and DFO should all be ashamed for watching this creature die the way it did.

Had the DFO allowed people to have contact with him and touch him and communicate with him without any reprocussions to the citizens he wouldnt have craved the attention that he wanted so bad and maybe would still be alive. But who knows we are not able to decide who is at fault. Yes it would have been great for him to return to his family, but who is to say that would have benefitted him in anyway, what if he was thrown out of his family....

Technically, Orcas are a part of the dolphin family.
And this is so touching, and so sad. I know someone who met Luna when he first showed up, he's not in the movie most likely though.

I watched this movie last night and was so touched by the story, the whale, the people of the town who first were giving everything to keep him there and than dithed him so heart breaking. I disagree with the department who was in my view of point mostly responsible for his bad behavior. And the people who trying to get him outta there, how they will know whats best for him? Its not like he was there for month until he started to befriend humans. HE (!!) choose it, how can it be wrong?!
