The fish tank is made of some cattle panels (fending from tractor supply) banded together in a circle Then a tarp and 1/4" blue foam insulation to help protect the liner, and a big piece of EPDM Firestone pondguard pond liner folded carefully into the shape and tied around the top edge. Hardest part was pushing the plumbing fitting through the uniseal and backing for the drain.

I discovered Aquaponics three years ago now in December 2007. If you are interested in reading about the journey, I've been trying to bring my blog up to date with posts about the aquaponics system at

The main continuous pump on the big system runs a little over 200 watts. (the big system has another pump that runs intermittently on a float switch as well and there is a 65 watt air pump on battery backup.)

The backyard system that we will be expanding during the workshop is running on a 50 watt pump. (There is a 35 watt air pump on battery backup for this system.)

Nice system! Is the gravity fed indexing valve available from Fimco or did you modify it yourself? Good gravity feed valves are hard to come by. Also, what is a "car door accuator" and why was it used? Thanks.

Thanks Bud, I've replied to your questions in a message in case you want more info but for general public, I've been working with the manufacturer on the gravity modification, contact me and I can get you in touch with a distributor for your area. The car door actuator is the motorized control for automatic car door locks and I used it to build an automated valve that can stop and start the flow to the indexing valve.
