Shots of a Gray Catbird singing on a tree branch... Right outside of my window - the video was shot inside, so the sound isn't direct, but the Catbird was about 10ft. from me, so the sound is still good!

  • catbirds are one of my favorite i just watched one take a nice evening bath in the dish on my doorstep. they are hyper bathers. I had a nest in my backyard they all fledged a few weeks ago. The robins aren't having much luck crows keep snatching their babies -.-

  • @MPSecare - That's no good - although crows need to eat too... I haven't noticed that catbirds are hyper bathers, but the robins in this area definitely are! They're not only hyper, they'll push other birds out if they're in there -- it's MY turn! :)

  • Aren't these the rascals that lay their eggs in other songbirds nests, leave and let the foster bird take care of the young 'un at the expense of the original baby bird? btw, 5 stars, rascals they be but they have a nice song, at least better than the common english sparrow!

  • They do! Thanks for the stars! :) I'm not sure about the parasitism with other birds' nests, I think that's a different species - mockingbird maybe? I saw a video once where (I believe) a robin took over a sparrow's nest and the new "mom" was forced to feed the bird 3 times it's size!

  • Hello, nice video. But no, they aren't brood parasitic. qualqui is confusing them with cowbirds, which are. Catbirds mimic other birds - and in that they are related to mockingbirds. Just today I heard a catbird call like a grackle.

  • OK! Let's see if I can reply to this instead of deleting it this time :)

Oh yeah? I love catbird calls, I've always called them "squeeze birds" because it sounds to me like someone is squeezing them when they call out! :) I've never heard of catbirds as being parasitic, but I could see it with cowbirds, especially the way that they hang around.

  • Yes! They're awesome birds! I have a shot of one of them squawking right into my microphone in one of my videos!

  • I say, you can never have too much catbird music!! Funky bird!!

  • Yep, that's pretty much their forte... :) They do that all morning (well, all *day*) here too.

  • Me too! I call them "squeezebirds" because they sound like someone's squeezing them when they cry out! :)
