They performed it every night on the Unf. Fire, tour, btw, once that tour got rolling midway through Fall/Winter of '84.

On the intro Edge uses gaffer taper with a slide,with a delay set at a high speed.You can approximate the gaffer tape mutes with your palm however.
This structure,although a cool variation,is not how Edge plays it.Edge sets the delay speed at a fast setting with only 1-ish repeats .The repeat volume is equal to or slightly greater to the picked note.This is KEY.

yes it could be but I am not sure...they almost never performed it live... but I agree that one can hear the slide from the first to the second chord
