The rare 1973 telecast of the 1970 Charles Strouse musical Applause, starring the incredible Lauren Bacall. Though the show - an adaptation of the Bette Davis movie All About Eve - is mostly forgotten now, it actually won the Tony for Best Musical, and Bacall won for Best Actress.
The quality is poor, yes, but I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. It's pure fun and seems like the epitome of that 70s style.
I do not in any way claim ownership of this video or its rights and give full credit to its creators and collaborators.

What a treat to see Lauren Bacall. I've been waiting forever for someone to post it. I kind of remember it from my youth. I can see why it won the Tony for Best Actress and Musical. It was probably very contemporary for the times but its dated. Only her numbers are worth anything. Though strangely I do enjoy listening to the CD every now and then.

This is the musical that I saw on CBS in 1973 that made me say..."I want to do THAT!!!" I was a male dancer, hoofer, whatever you want to call it, in 40 shows over the next 35 years and had myself a ball. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I look back and those were "the best nights of my life", hands down. From the flops to the standing ovations. Who could ask for anything more..........not me!!!!

Ingenious rendition of the classic movie. Bacall really showed her talent in this -- a shame she was swept into Hollywood as a young actress -- she could have really made a mark on the stage in her youth and I believe that was her original intent, but her mother drove her every move. She came full circle in this. Her talent was never reconciled on screen. Betty Bacall should come back to Broadway as a grand encore of her career and life. Tickets would fly out of box offices.
