UCSD's new Dean of Biology Steve Kay on the importance of modern biology, improving crops for the developing world. Series: "On Beyond" [2/2008] [Science] [Show ID: 13811]
I don't believe ethanol will be the answer to our need for a new fuel. Look at what's happening in Borneo, Papa New Guinea and essentially all over the world. They cut down rainforest's in a hurricane like speed. Isn't that worse than co2 emissions?
What I mean is that, the diversity of organisms on earth, aren't something that is going to come back for a hell of a long time. But the co2 problems might be solved by new technologies.
What we don't want is even more mono-cultures in the world!
