Police internal affairs investigators are probing allegations that an officer arrested a black businessman who owed the Raynham dog track $5,200 on a bogus warrant and called the man a racial slur when he protested.
Jose Semedo, a Brockton resident for 19 years, filed a formal complaint with the Police Department and has contacted an attorney, saying he was tracked down at his business, arrested on what he called an invalid warrant and kept locked up even after the officer was told the warrant was not good.
No action has been taken against the officer.
"It is still an active investigation," Police Chief William Conlon said. "It is still ongoing. ... It is actively being pursued."
The chief said the allegations "would be very troubling, extremely so" if proven true.
"We are a system of laws and we have to thoroughly investigate and we have to prove or disprove the allegations that were made," Conlon said.
