This is a historic WWII black americana item "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.".............................
I'd like to share some information and images of a captured WWII German banner signed by members of the 761st Tank Battalion in company A 1st platoon. The soldiers names and home town locations were instrumental in helping a 761st historian in his ongoing 761st roster project. Here are some e-mail quotes from the 761st author, historian, & son of a Black Panther after viewing photos of the flag in 2005:................................

"This is a great find, It was Company A First Platoon
Capt Williams mentioned having a flag like this once. He passed away several years ago. J. Stevens also mentioned a similar flag. I guess there were a few of them going around."........................................

"About this flag. Here is my guess. This belonged to David Williams II. He said that his company signed it for him as a going away present in January 1945. In the book there is a picture of Williams standing by the flag which is on the ground. Williams always wanted the flag to wind up in the Smithsonian."................................................

"Add value to your find, buy a copy of my book and keep it along with the flag because Capt Williams is standing next to that flag in a picture. That flag is the real thing. no counterfeiter could come up with those names.
Great find and save. That flag could have been lost to history forever. And maybe one day you can loan it to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.. David Williams will smile from his grave. ".........................................

I contacted the Smithsonian a few years ago and could not get past the receptionist..... I hope this short video clip will interest WWII & Black History collectors. There is a wealth of information on the history of the 761st on the web. The Patton museum in Kentucky had a similar signed flag on display.

  • hitler sucks he killed thousands and thousands of jewish people

  • Thanks for the info kid......

It's actually about six million, this is why we need to remember and study the past. Pay attention in your history class and maybe you will learn something...... This flag is all about the 761st, maybe you should start with Call of Duty: Finest Hour" PS2 video game based on the 761st. You probably know video game history??

Since 1945-46, the most commonly quoted figure for the total number of Jews killed has been an estimate of approximately six million.

  • I know a Holocaust resistance fighter who also keeps a captured Nazi flag. I guess he keeps it to remember too.

  • This flag was captured and signed by The 761st Tank Battalion, a United States Army tank battalion during World War II. The unit was made up of all black soldiers (Buffalo Soldiers), who by Federal law were not permitted to serve alongside white troops. (The US Army did not officially desegregate until after World War II). They were known as the Black Panthers after their unit's shoulder sleeve insignia. Their motto was Come out fighting. The flag is a small part of WWII history

  • lovely item and history.

  • Thank You for the comment.

  • The Nazis called them the"Hell Fighters" and were deathly afraid of them. They set battle plans purposely to avoid them.

  • @nceincohio

I recently met two Tuskegee airmen. Who where visiting a local library it was a great expirience talking with them.

  • President Obama's turn your up sir!!!. Bush gave the 332nd Tuskegee Airnen Congressional Gold Medal Honors. Now it's time to recognize the historic efforts of the 761st Black Panther Tank Division!!

  • The movie was great, one slight problem, the roles are reversed. Wonder why they never turn the camera around when Scott was standing in front of the Nations Flag. The roles are reversed...the white guy should be shinning the shoes of Patton, and the black troops should of been in the tanks!!! "Another 'mistruth again' rises out of Hollywood." The 761st was Patton's heroes, the spearhead into Germany...they were all Black...Buffalo Soldiers. Rescue at Pine Ridge. com
