  • weinberg is proably one of the most brilliant minds in the field of biochemistry.

  • It dosent matter if you're in MIT or not, you must be a student that can separate the important stuff from w is not. I study in the University of Puerto Rico and the professors dont give u any lecture notes either... sorry pal

  • @kotowan Sorry I disagree. I think you're just intimidated by a teacher who puts the responsibility in your hands. I agreed with what the professor said: I never would have got my degree had some professors basically told me, "Fuck you, figure this out yourself."

  • @VoteNixon2008 ya MIT teaches this course frm a pretty unique perspective.My intro bio had all the other topics u mentioned..if u watch the 1st lecture in the series he explains that the course covers the fundamental principles of biology--those applicable to all life (kinda like a math course where u learn the laws/theorems of the subject) with the rest jus being arbitrary knowledge or application.I agree w/ um here.Calc 1 is not the scope of diff. eq but rather fundamental concepts calc. :-/

  • I study at the University of Paris V René Descartes and Professor R.A Weinberg is a reference in the field of oncology for us !

  • If it werent for Eric Lander this course would be almost impossible. It's such a chemical and molecular biology biased view.

    For an intro to biology there's been no disscussion of anything outside of molecular biology. That's fine and is probably more of what MIT sets itself up to be. However, it is a very reductionist, very cold view of the enormous scope of the study of life.There's botany and zoology, ecology and evolution, microbiology and histology.

  • Actually,I think what he's saying is good.A lot of people will quite happily just "learn to the test",which may be ok in high school,but doesn't necessarily make for good scientists,and I agree with him that what is important for the students is learning how to figure out what is important and how to solve problems. I also think he is a good lecturer,and very clear.
