I don't precisely know Conan's present standing in the fantasy market and sub-culture, that's the first thing you should know. Now, what I am certain of is that we could use more rich universes such as the Hyborian Age, and powerful characters as Conan can be. The Fantasy Genre has yet to experience its finest hour. The only way such an era will come is by looking back and building on the foundations of enormous worlds populated by larger-than-life characters. I'm aware Conan the Barbarian had its flaws, but it was a step in the right direction. Hopefully my humble vid will show people why!

If my work convinced you, do yourselves a favour, go to Wikisource and read two stories in particular before any other:
*Tower of the Elephant
*Valley of the Worm (listed under Other Fantasy Stories)
It's all free! If that's your cup of tea, give the other stories a go, and wait for the great revival of the fantasy genre.

Sweet bloody dreams to you all :)

  • This is so great!!!! Conan forever!!!! The best Hero ever!!!!

  • Great video, Falvaroth! Fairly simple and uncomplicated, but the juxtaposition of artwork to classic Howard quotes does wonders.

Great choice of music too: understated to begin with, but rousing militaristic marching with grim undertones.

  • @OokamiDaigoro

Do you think Gandalf is superior to him?

  • CONAN RULES!!! and forever will, he gives me inspiration and strength YEAH!!

    All hail KING CONAN!!!

  • Guys like Conan, Merlin, Gandalf, Oberon and several warriors from Greek and Norse Mythology are true aspects of Fantasy. Not at all like this sorcery school nonsense in Harry Potter; real wizards don't go to school houses to learn magic, most of them learn on their own

  • Hail king Conan!

(F*ck young potter up the a*s? Damn, Conan would split him in half and call it foreplay, then realize it was a male and not the snot-nosed little bitch he mistook it for. )

  • Conan is a true hero, and a symbol of a great strugle. From being a mere tribesman, he became ruler of the most powerful kingdom of his times. By strength, steel and determination, he achieved his ambitious goal.

  • In 1981, my nickname was Snake Plissken (^_^)!!!

I hope your video will help the Sword and Sorcery-Heroic Fantasy genre to conquer the well-deserved glory again, because I'm so bored with that stupid four-eyed tiny little wizard. Thanks for posting and for the Wikisource recommendations. I'll take a look to those stories as soon as I can (and, after I will have read your 50 pages because I have not yet read them. (^_^))

    Happy New Year!

  • Admittedly, I'm not a "savant" of the fantasy genre but when Milius directed Conan the Barbarian in 1982, I was 16 y.o. and I liked it so much. I'm a fan of Science Fiction books (Verne; Asimov; Smith; Campbell; Delany...) and films (The War of the Worlds; 2001: A Space Odyssey; Solaris; Blade Runner; 1997: Escape From New York...). When I was very young, around 9, I thought to be Thor, the god of thunder, and I made two hammers using two tennis balls and a pair of sockets. ~ lol...
