It's a shame Shelby only stuck around for one episode. Elizabeth Dennehy brought such edgy electricity and compelling intensity to her role. She had good chemistry with the existing cast, too.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Picard had died at the end of TBOBW and TNG had continued with Riker as captain. If the producers had kept Shelby on as first officer and let her keep her "attitude," she and Riker would have made an interesting duo.
