How did the tube tent work on your hike?

Nice in a pinch but I could not deal with the bugs. I can't sleep with stuff crawling on me or drinking my blood. I section. Gonna be there again in June. Will finish in NC this year. Love the AT. Good luck.

I saw a couple of these on the trail. Mostly from section hikers, or Boy Scouts. I always used a tarp on my thru hikes. If the bugs were flying I'd throw some sort of tent body under it to keep from getting bit. Less is more, and this video is a demonstration of less. Bugs on the AT don't start to fly till around SNP or mid june for a NOBO. The hike itself has an amazing way of helping hikers configure any gear issues. Things just seem to work themselves out.
Actually the tent worked better than I thought it would. It was a little tight and if it was placed on the slightest slope your sleeping pad would creep up the inside of the tube and end up next to you in the middle of the night. But I slept in it through a powerful wind/rain storm and only the foot of my sleeping bag was wet. Other people with "real" tents didn't do as well.
