Huge Red oak goes down in hurricane Irene! I was so mad this storm took down 7 trees! One landed on my sunroom and the other on my Garage but this massive oak missed the house by a couple of feet and right behind it was a huge hickory that came down and missed the garage but landed on my well. This storm hit us hard in Richmond Va east of the river.

Look closely as three falls. You will see a squirrel running for it's life. The next morning I found a shivering baby squirrel, a little over a week old, on my slate walk way. I took the little guy in an have been nursing him until he's old enough to go out in the woods.

  • Mid-way up it is about 200 years but I haven't cut through the base yet and my ring count is probably less than there actually is. One day I will count them accurately. It is amazing how strong the wind was to take that tree down!

  • I have two huge oaks right next to my house that look the same size as that and I get very frightened in high winds that they are going to fall onto our home.

Was it in good health? How strong was the hurricane? You're so lucky!!!!
