Central Florida's Muslim community is upset, but not surprised by an incident in which a Muslim family of nine was kicked off a New Year's Day flight to Orlando, the Council on American-Islamic Relations told News 13.
Hazem Bata, the council's executive director, said people began to fear Muslims after Sept. 11, and many still do.
"We've got to get to the point where we stop using security as a carte blanche excuse to trample of the civil rights of Muslims," Bata said.
Bata said the Muslim community was not angry with how the FBI handled the situation, but with AirTran, who still refused to allow the family to get back on the plane after all nine people were cleared of any suspicion
