A prease is a press - in the sense of a crowd, e.g., "alone in a press of people travelled he".

He was fatally wounded at the Battle of Zutphen. There's a story that he gave his flask of water to another wounded soldier, saying, "Thy necessity is yet greater than mine" - meaning, "This will be more use to you because I'm going to die." It's a good story and it might even be true.

The painting is "Sleeping Girl" by Domenico Feti, about 1615
