@AndMan91 Connect the cables, then go to system preferences - hardware - displays - arrangement - mirror displays

my gf has this laptop, i bought a mini display port to hdmi cable for it and tried hookin it up to my 42 inch, it worked but only a background showed up on my tv, no icons or ne way of doing ne thing, how do u get it like a fully functional screen?

It worked the first time I tried it. But after unplugging my macbook from the hdmi cable and trying it the next day, my macbook pro detects the display, but on the screen it says "no signal." Anything I can do to fix it?
