Paramahansaji taught me to move the currents in the spine in 1947 shortly after my encounter. He did this solely by means of intuition.
Did Yoganandaji's intense peering into my eyes impart enough energy to me so that he could do this? As Jesus noted when the woman was healed by touching his garment, ". . . virtue [energy] is gone out of me" - Luke 8:46. The yogis say that intensely peering into a person's eyes can do the same.
This happened one year before I became a fundamentalist, 12 years before I became an atheist.
Decades later and one year after I joined Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), I learned that this process of moving the currents was called "Kriya Yoga."
Normally, we don't tell such stories, and for years I never even told my wife. However, I began to feel that I should do so back around 2005. I balked. But then a friend called to say that he was getting a strong message that I should write an autobiography. I had never told him any of my stories, so I thought he might be right. But again I got cold feet. So I wrote to SRF for advice. After a monk called to say that I should tell my stories, I bought two camcorders and began. Let the chips fall where they may.
