@MalachioftheForest actually they said the main reason was to shorten the song to possibly get more radio play just as the guy before you said

@1997WoRm the point of remnants was to create a opening for the album. disturbed wanted to create a rhythmic piece, devoid of lyrics, to set the mood for the rest of the album. although it acts as an opening for asylum they didn't want to make it part of the song.

They actually were put together as one song at first, but they decided to split them because they thought it might not get played on the radio and for another reason that I can't remember. :/
