Hi
Thanks for your reply. You can not call a Laika as the KBD. You have to honor the history. But if you wish you can have Laikas and enjoy. Great dogs I believe.
Please don't have a attitude to say: " I can do/call whatever I want". It sounds so Bush.
Hopefully you leave in the north. I have had only one dog - passed away - she was a Englis bearded dog. I love her so much. No I have a cat: Juulia. Just love her.

Too late! Here in Northern Virginia, U.S.A. the summers are sweltering but my dear little Tyvek has always handled it quite well. Karelians have shorter outer coats and once he sheds his undercoat he's just fine in the heat. Better in fact than quite a few other breeds. I wanted to keep him outside when I first got him, but he hates being alone and raised holy hell whenever shut outside so we had to keep him indoors. For a fierce hunting dog, he's made a pretty good house pet.

@RimfireFin You certainly did kill millions. They didn't get your land without a fight. They paid a high price for it.

Beautiful dog! I have a male Karelian puppy named Sissu. We live in Alaska. I would not recommend this breed except in northern climates. They get hot easily, even in Alaska. Also, they need at least an hour of serious exercise or they can become destructive. The can be very strong-willed, so they are not a good breed for anyone who isn't going to make a very serious committment to them.

sry, but your dog is too fat to be a karelian bear dog.

We have a karelian bear dog too. We got it a year ago when it was already 3 years old, so it takes time now to train it to behave herself better.

Dear Sir
Please don't even consider to have such a animal in South. These dogs were breed and raised here in Finland for weather conditions we have here. This semi-wild beast will suffer in South.
Even in the true winter we have here, they dont usually stay inside the house. A little doghouse is what they enjoy and of course the woods.
Had the honor to met one during their hunting touched too, but very carefully the fur were like beats has.
He's a bear hunter livingin North.
