Another Diesel mechanic told me that running veg oil in Diesel cars is ok but running it it trucks designed to pull a lot of weight (or a truck under a load) will destroy the engine in a very short period of time. It would seem there would be a simple additive to ensure lubricity or... as you suggest here the blending with Diesel may or may not be sufficient. I keep analyzing this because the last thing I need is to destroy my engine, it would defeat my goal to save money.

... The downside in picking up used motor oil and transmission fluid for fuel is that you don't know how much of it is synthetic. Synthetics are said to glaze over the injectors so I just wonder if any alternatives are worthwhile or if occasionally just running pure Diesel at the pump and adding a fuel injector cleaner can fix the damage.

I spoke to the owner/mechanic of Diesel's Only in Denver Colorado, 20yrs in business. He said that Veg oil does not have sufficient lubricating properties and destroys rubber seals so any fuel savings will go to vehicle repairs. Then I asked about burning used motor oil and transmission fluid, he said "Now those do very well in the Diesel engine". I was both depressed yet excited about that, as it's bad for the environment but I can still get free or cheap fuel...

I gave up when the rap music came on. I just couldn't be bothered to read that rolling text. Next time do a commentary and lose the c rap music.

oh yes sir! ... how about ummm getting a brain and figuring that its just mixing veg oil n diesel you miserable twat

Really is it that simple? From what I've seen you need a mini oil refinery in your garage, hardly worth the hassle I think.

Really its that simple .... obviously depending on the mix .. my friend runs his mitsubishi pajero happily on a mix of 50/50 ... 30 % oil 70% diesel is good also ... the "rap" music is The Prodigy Diesel Power ... there are many complicated ways of doing it,including recycling old oil etc but hey ... I said easy ... now BUGGER OFF! haha

On my investigations and calculations, once you weigh up the pro's n cons,it is a subject that with thought and dedication you can save on fuel. But the costs in other departments, car maintainence (fuel pumps are costly and have higher risk of failure along with veg oil attacks rubber, many issues) environment issues producing oils (rainforest for palms for oil etc) It does seem a fruitless excercise ....Made a great vid though!

Local Tesco sells "Bio-diesel" From Tesco...
We currently sell Global Diesel - a Diesel blend containing 5% bio Diesel. With regards to the price of our fuel - It is priced at 1 ppl above standard Diesel.
So, 5% secret ingredient (probably their value cooking oil) and 95% ordinary diesel?
If they priced it 1p/litre LESS than ordinary diesel, it'd be worth it but to shove in a cheap ingredient & up the price is simply tightfistedness.(from the net)
