Always liked the class 47. It has a sense of power and thunder that modern diesels don't have. I love the sound when they pass by at speed or when the engines are running on full power. Sounds like when you let go of an untied balloon, only with the volume turned up!

What year was this? - thanks

Diesel passenger traction has become very boring these days- outside of railtours just seems to be 43s and 67s now :(

Do you have any footage of the class 47's when they were being diverted via Nuneaton in there final summer on the cross country workings?I remember spending many Sundays at Nuneaton watching them. The line between Coventry&Birmingham was closed on the same day so all the electrics working between London&Birmingham were diverted to Nuneaton too. Then being draged from Nuneaton to Birmingham by even more 47's.
Great footage,lots of memories,thanks.

I am sorry but no, I don't have any of the material you mention. I don't think I ever set foot on Nuneaton station although I did pass thru on numerous occasions.

class 47 and mk 3s what service would that be

I assume you mean the clip of 47971 at Blackburn (at 4:06). That was a WCML diversion due to engineering work so it would probably be a Glasgow-Euston service. Hope that helps.
