@Eldoray It shouldn't be forgotten Bacall (and Welsh too, for that mattter) was primarly a performer in films, where the rules are a little more relaxed than in the live, theatrical profession, that demands the discipline of memorization of one's lines.
In fact, it seems Bacall advanced this trend of film performers appearing in Broadway productions, a trend that has grown to ridiculous proportions today.
There was a time actors went from stage to film, a more logical practice.

@Eldoray Even Lauren Bacall isn't necessarily Lauren Bacall. My friend's aunt saw Bacall in the Boston production of Noel Coward's "Waiting In The Wings," about a week before we did, and reported to us Bacall had to call out "Line" to the script supervisor a few times during the play.
So much for "seasoned pro," huh?

But sorry, Lauren Bacall is no Raquel Welch either. Raquel made the show really work.

Debbie Reynolds FIRST took over Bacall's role in this before Welch -- I didn't see Welch but a friend told me she actually stopped the show mid-performance to consult with the script manager -- the audience loved it -- but it goes to show you Welch was all glamour and sales, versus disciplined stage actress.
