This is a mixed reality experiment demo. I'm using this software: http://www.vtt.fi/references/avatar.jsp?lang=en to augment my living room with my secondlife avatar and at the same time i'm using a brain-computer interface to control the avatar.

Hope you enjoy it!

  • The singularity is near!

  • @hiropendragon yes, also wiimote or kinect will do a great job imho

  • @need2revolt Aha! Didn't realize the Emotiv has a gyro built in. That may make a big difference. You could combine these with a wireless air mouse (a la Gyration) to add in the interaction element.

  • @hiropendragon i mapped it to "w" key really, but the effect is the same. i can control only two actions with the headset (i'm learning the third) and i did try fly, that is a great feeling! (not good for the purpouse of the vid though)

anyway, i think forward and fly is enough, as you can choose direction with the gyro turning your head. that feels more natural even.

  • @need2revolt Okay, I see what you did. I'm guessing you mapped one of the basic headset inputs into the Up Arrow command into Second Life. Not bad. Have you tried mapping multiple keys yet? All four directional? Fly toggle?

  • @AFullstop yes, physics works, but with the risk of loosing realism. also, field of view is very tiny with standard webcam, you need a wideangle one.

epoc is no keyboard/mouse replacement, it's an addition to them.

  • @hiropendragon emotiv epoc, look for it on google or youtube... you won't be skeptical anymore (i hope =P )

  • So what "brain-computer interface" are you using? Call me skeptical.

  • @need2revolt Bah, I hadn't noticed that box at all! And now I feel dumb. haha!

I was wondering more about the brain-computer interface - does it really allow for you to perform the same diversity of actions that you'd otherwise do with a keyboard and mouse? Can you manipulate these other augmented objects, as with Edit - moving a box along the x-axis, for instance, or raising it, setting it to physical, and dropping it? (Sorry if that's also a stupid question! Haha!)

  • @munkie74656 thanks!

i'm using vuzix iwear vr920, but they're old, there are better models now
