Christian Heritage for Ngapuhi Maori of Aotearoa New Zealand

Ngapuhi War Chiefs defeated by love of God. Peremea Porter a kaumatua of Northern Maori Tribe of Ngapuhi, explains the magnificence of the love of God. He conveys what his great grandmother told him, of her witnessing the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi when she was 12 years old (she lived to 118). Two years before the Treaty was signed, the War Chiefs of Ngapuhi got together,("Nga" means plural or many, "Puhi" is the maori word that makes the sound of a flintlock musket when it fires). They were all able to agree on the following conclusion;
"We are all fallen foes.
This is a foe we can not conquor -
the love of God"

What better evidence to support New Zealand's National Anthem - "God Defend New Zealand".
Peremea Porter is speaking at the powhiri welcoming for the Destiny Church organised meeting to make the Waitangi Declaration of New Zealand's Christian Heritage during the Interfaith Forum on the 29th May 2007. The powhiri ceremony was held at Waitangi Camp Grounds next to Te Ti Marae.

Interesting. Here's the reality, Nga Puhi rangatira did believe that the Jesus men would be tough to defeat. Not because of the love of God, or Christ, or whomever, but because they brought the perks of modern technology with them. Hongi Hika had been to England, he knew that Christians were beyond counting. He'd been to Australia and knew they would come like a flood that cannot be stopped. By all means, share the word of your God, but do NOT corrupt my iwi's history in the process.
