Stoney Creek High School Chamber Singers "Free Flight"

(Watch In HD) Free Flight, premiered by the Stoney Creek (Rochester Hills) Chamber Singers in May 2010. The text is by Walt Whitman, and the music was composed for the Chamber Singers by their director, Brandon Ulrich.

This is thy hour, O soul, thy free flight into the wordless.
Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done.
Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing,
Pondering the themes thou lovest best,
Night sleep, death, and the stars.

The Chamber Singers annually premiere music written and commissioned for them at music conferences, and have regular performances with the Detroit Symphony, the Detroit Chamber Winds, and other orchestras in the area.
