  • lol, i dont get why people watch taekwondo videos and say "its a shame they can't punch in the face, or its a shame you can't kick lower legs. Taekwondo, is a sport, like basketball. It's like me going to a muy thai video, and saying "its a shame i can't take out my gun and blasting him in the face..."

  • The round kick counter is for points but for those who arent as reflexive, just sticking out your left leg and push kicking slightly will cause them to spin off balance just enough for them to miss. But you dont get a point due to the shallowness of the kick.

  • @andrewsssx Best post I've seen for a long time

  • @turfguy87

    I agree.

  • @grozde yep- in our circuit, if you keep your senses keen, its not too hard to counter a spinner-type fighter, unless they're REALLY fast. It takes so much more time to wind up the spin, turn your blind side to the opponent & come after him. Most times you can strike him before he gets to you, but its all about the timing.

  • @turfguy87

Well, in TKD I've noticed that they have this strange idea sometimes, that if you start spinning once or twice before you actually kick - something magical would happen, or your opponent would get distracted, or you'll gain more momentum, or I don't know what... So sometime they just spin and spin BEFORE even attempting a kick. I guess this video is about countering this particular approach...

  • @andrewsssx Thats actually not all that true because in the Taekwondo school that I go to which is a ITF one, you are allowed to punch in the face.

  • @andrewsssx There are lots of kinds of Taekwondo, 1: Traditional [The Strongest Kind] 2: Olympic [The one ur talking about and probably most popular one on television] 3: Exhibition [Stunts made for a movie] 4: Self Defense [What you use in the streets]. So don't just think THAT art is purely a sport.

  • @storyacoustic yeah I believe the sensei can whoop alotta bootay; he's quick for an older guy too. I'm saying too many videos never show an actual lifelike attack. It happens in our dojo too. Many students would freak & panic if someone on the street actually attacked & KEPT attacking like in real life. We're trained to throw ONE punch or two, then back off & do it again. Its misleading & a detriment

  • @turfguy87 This is a problem in nearly all martial arts. I've seen in in TKD and aikido: get a good martial artist to play the partner of a real master, and suddenly they're afraid to really try to hit the master. It would have been nice to see Master Kim counter a more committed attack in this video, but trust me, he could have made that counter work.

  • the guy on the left NEVER THROWS A KICK-watch it

  • @shatterhandeve watch the video-it speaks for itself. Many things glamorized in the dojo rarely work that well in the outside world where ppl don't line up just right, or throw the correct hand / leg so you can use your techniques
