Christof Koch on the Science of Consciousness

I do wonder why some folkies are prone to take a word, such like: consciousness, and to impart upon it a non-materialistic definition. Doing this denies any legitimacy of the research and work being done to better understand the mind. Like many discoveries that have transpired in the last few decades, we do do not have to wait very much longer for a really functional and rational mapping of the mind with respect to its biological components. This will shed much needed clarity on many things.

This is very good.
I think the Brain-Body/Matter dualism is a false dichotomy. Consciousness is an emergent property of the complexity of the neuronal system. Of course, we do not yet understand it completely.
John Searle sheds much light and rationality on this subject.
I will have to keep an eye on Cristof Koch now, too.

Consciousness is what we try to perceive.

@hrmIwonder to be so arrogant as to assume that philosophy is only concerned with science is your mistake... and you are forgiven for that.

Anyone else notice the little jab at philosophy? I think as science grows philosophy will kinda disappear or what's left of it will merge into science. He kind of put philosophy and religion in the same category.

@hrmIwonder " 'Pure' philosophy must just concede impotence and retreat into conservative conceptual anthropology until the advance of science puts it out of its misery."
