Zefiro torna e di soavi accenti
l'aer fa grato e'il pié discioglie a l'onde
e, mormoranda tra le verdi fronde,
fa danzar al bel suon su'l prato i fiori.

Inghirlandato il crin Fillide e Clori
note temprando lor care e gioconde;
e da monti e da valli ime e profond
raddoppian l'armonia gli antri canori.
Sorge più vaga in ciel l'aurora, e'l sole,
sparge più luci d'or; più puro argento
fregia di Teti il bel ceruleo manto.

Sol io, per selve abbandonate e sole,
l'ardor di due begli occhi e'l mio tormento,
come vuol mia ventura, hor piango hor canto.

I'm so much in love with this at the moment! To hear music like this sung and played like this sort of makes the following few hundred years of music rather obsolete. Claudio said it all, and in the best way! (And the soprano is sooo cute. Not that it has anything to do with anything. Just thought I'd mention it. And Philippe is too, by the way.)

do not listen to the singing voices, litsen to the orchestra - the orchestra is the most brilliant monteverdi-interpreter i heard in a lifetime. an i am not a teenager.

"The castrate" is a regular baritone in modal or speaking voice. He uses his headvoice to sing, like the soprano, whose speaking voice is also not as high as her singing voice.

This particular one is a rather high singer. Most headvoice singers are altos. This is a mezzo-soprano. He sings lower than she does.
