This is how to RUN Windows XP on a USB Drive, not how to make it so you can use a USB drive to install windows onto a hard drive, that information is what you get from 9/10 search results.

This is NOT BartPE and NOT WindowsEmbedded this is FULL BLOWN WINDOWS XP!

note, it took what seemed like about 2 hours to copy to my usb thumb flash drive, but estimated time said 36 minutes. I thought it froze at least twice, but it was just taking several minutes for 1 process, it took waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than installing to an internal Hard Drive, perhaps its the limitation of the flash drive, idk.

I read this:
http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176
Decided I'd rather someone else do it for me,

Found this:
Windows_XP_SP3_Pro_Corp_USB_INSTALLABLE_Semi-Unattended
(don't mention a link or I will delete it and block you)

1 possible virus file (not needed anyway) in the DOCS folder, you can just rename the extension to both files from ".exe" to ".exe.disabled" and copy renamed notepad.exe for both the files in there, in case it needed to copy those files during install (IDK). If it doesn't need those files, you can delete them (PowerISO registered lets you edit ISO files.)

It booted for me but took 10-30 seconds to open each window on an 8gig Sandisk Cruizer flash drive :( I am curious about it on a 60-120gig USB Hard Drive for about $30 on newegg

unfortunately, I deleted some files after I had it booting on the CPU that I installed it to and then reconnected my hard drives and now it blue screens on my netbook, just like this person says
http://forums.ngine.de/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=50040

Hope this helps. Once I get it fully working and solved, I will post another video

  • Well, I gave up on it. Whats the point of having an ultra slow OS on USB thumb drive that can only boot 1 time and then never works again. I still don't know about installing it to an external USB hard drive, but i'm not sure if it would make any difference.
