Old film footage (about 1954) shows Jean rocking and singing, "Payday at Coal Creek." Two of her brothers worked in the local mines at the Hazard Coalfields in Kentucky. John Cohen accompanies on banjo.
I think it is an extract of CBS programme "Camera Three".
There was another one on May 30, 1971 entitled "Sing Me a Woman" with Jean Ritchie, Oscar Brand and Cecilia Kirkland. Unfortunately, I can't find it... :(
Wonderful, never knew Jean sang this. I learned it from Pete Steele in 1961. Have always loved her singing, met and introduced her at the London Singers Club, late 60s. Thanks for unearthing and uploading this clip. Best wishes to Jean.
Such a "high-lonesome" song. God bless the miners.

I think that"s John Cohen on banjo. My guess is this is from 1963 or '64.
