All I can say is come and try it for yourself. The FWC seem to agree with the statements on the size of these fish. However you may have more credibility than they do.

My dad cought one he said it took him all day just to real it in, and they wount let you keep them, there protected. But think how much fish you would have.

Usually they weigh less than what they look no matter who you are. mneptune1, they'd have to do it like hunting with an annual tag. If they allowed 1 per vessel like Warsaw's they'd be in bad shape pretty quick. They have become a nusiance though. Captchancey at least you guys hook 'em. I saw another one where they wouldn't let 'em eat the bait(stingray). I know what you mean about come and try. I've had 'em on that were more than I could handle.

They certainly can be a PAIN!!! On the East coast of Florida they are taking over all of the reefs and wrecks!!! Jewfish are eating every other snapper and grouper species and are beginning to decimate other reef fish populations. It is time for the SAFMC to open "limited" harvests of Jewfish...aka "Goliath" grouper. There needs to be a one fish per boat harvest and slot limit made for taking these fish. I'm thinking a one fish per boat, per day limit between 150 - 300 pounds!!!

I know of a place where there is a world record Goliath Grouper sitting. It broke 200 lb jerry brown line and the line had 7 ft of wire leader on it. its here in florida.
