As part of the Goodwood Revival the Napier Railton is driven on public roads to the near by Rolls Royce factory for canapes and drinks on the lawn. Under police out rider supervision.

  • Batman was driving... ;)

  • one of those banks of cylinders is looking pretty sick

  • @swinegull Nto really but it was limited to a max speed which wasn't much over tickover as the police were worried it might gallivant off .

  • @GarfieldLC just read the brooklands bulletin and it says that the volunteer mechanics at brooklands museum have tried many things to see why it smokes so much. Including a very expensive bit of equipment called a borescope/videoscope that was able to record a series of high quality images of the engines internals. They say that they will now plan work to repair this.

  • @swinegull

very informative, still it was smoking as much because it wasn't cooling due to low speeds.

    :)

  • cool, but shaky. 4/5 :D

  • @MegaZsolti

  • Mein Gott! They actually allowed this Thunder Beast on the public roads?? Don't they know about this car? Tell them to enquire at Brooklands ~ they'll chain it to the ground and post guards round it! They once had to rescue it with a tank, because nothing else could move it. Perhaps the single car in the world I wouldn't have the hair enough to attempt driving.

  • This must be the Elite headquarters!

  • According to Mr. Winn, director of the Brooklands Museum Trust, they now limit rpm to an absolute ceiling of 1800 in the interests of longevity. He also mentioned that they have no record of the clutch ever having been relined-and the car can't get round the tight hairpins without a fair bit of judicious slipping by the driver, even in first! (It has 3 gears).
