Lyrics:

When sunset in the sky,
And flowers never die, babe
Friends don't pass you by,
Cause that's my home
When the folks say howdedo.
Like they mean it too,
Where mammie's love is true,
Cause that's my home

I'm always welcomed back,
No matter where I roam.
Just a little shack to me,
Is home sweet home.
Where the Swanee river flows.
The shady pine trees grow.
I needn't say no more,
Cause that's my home

  • A classic song by one of American popular music's true originals and innovators. I wonder if every popular singer and musician realize that their lineage can be traced directly back to Louis Armstrong? I guess they do if they study music and can open their eyes and ears. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • @amd77j Everything leads back to Louis, seriously! I'm glad you enjoyed. This song is so beautiful. And I love Louis. I can always tell when he's playing the trumpet, even if I don't know what song it is, where I am or what's happening, lol.

  • @charliebubblesoar I am so sad that we don't teach the arts in most American schools anymore or it's not emphasized. What has happened to our humanity? And Louis Armstrong was as about as great an Ambassador for HUMANITY as musician of the past century. Btw, I can also recognize his playing anywhere. I remember the first time I heard it as a kid in Memphis. I was shocked by the power, fluidity, grace, and clarity. So when I hear his music I always say to myself, "That's My Home".;-)

  • @amd77j That's cool, you are from Memphis. I'm Canadian. We r losing a lot of our arts in school as well, because of the state of things in the economy. I don't like it. When I was in middle school less than 10 years ago, we had Blues in the School, we learned a lot about jazz and other types of music, and we got to play at the Blues festival with professionals one time in the summer. It was crazy awesome. But things are changing so quickly when it comes to teaching kids what really matters.

  • Thank you for posting this great song by a lovely great artist.

  • You are welcome, lovely great person! x

and the flowers never die, yes

    friends don't pass you by

    cause that's my home .......

    heavenly music!

  • I wa wondering if anyone had the other take from around the same time. It's slightly more snappy.

  • @charliebubblesoar So little value put on the arts as they aren't supposed to be important. I say nonsense. Interesting that physical education and the arts have been de-emphasized for years in schools in the USA. The economy is now used as another reason to hack it further. Sigh. I'll just continue to fight the good fight and donate money to those causes. No way every kid shouldn't be introduced to the arts and encouraged to explore and enjoy them no matter where they grow up.

  • @fillra I was listening to this music in 1980 at 18. There was an alternate more snappy take of this around the same time/date. If anyone has this please post it, as I preferred that one.

  • Really nice. Thanks, charlieb...

    Louis Armstrong And His Orchestra

December 8, 1932, Camden, New Jersey

The "michaelminn armstrong" discography says that this band is actually drummer Chick Webb's band.

Lots of Louis at "redhotjazz", also at the excellent "dippermouth dot blogspot".
