More highlights from my "NightLife Show" which ran on local cable TV in FL from 1980-1986. This condensed episode features the launch of Space Shuttle Columbia in November of 1981. This episode was taped at Cape Canaveral using the "latest" Toshiba 2-piece VHS recorder. The STS-2 Mission was noted as it was the 1st time the Remote Arm was used. You'll also note that the main fuel tank is painted white. It was later left unpainted and saved 600 pounds in weight. Jim Enix is a guest and shows his professional JVC 3-tube camera with Sony 3/4" video recorder. The launch is seen close-up as I used a 500mm lens on the camera.
Air Date: January 11, 1982

  • Kerry, neat show. What is the opening theme song?? I know RISE was the closer. Thanks for some great video.

  • Its called "Peepshow Percussion" by an old rock group, The Lovin Spoonful.

  • Thanks for posting this really jealous man wished i was at all those launches

  • Thank YOU! I'm still looking for my video of the first shuttle launch - STS-1. I also went sometime with just a 35mm camera; no video. I surprised myself how many times I went.

  • This is great. If you have any more shows recorded around space missions such as this, please post them.

  • HI. Thanks for watching. Yes, I have just uploaded 2 more shows from the Cape: Apollo 17 and the Apollo-Soyuz mission. I also recorded the first Space Shuttle on video from 1981...but gotta find it.

  • That's some great video kit and they are proud to be using it. I have a 3/4" toploader in my videos and I'm thrilled to see another!

The 3-tube must have been worth some money...

  • The Second Space Shuttle was to have been about 5 days but it was cut back to 2 days with a Saturday landing.
