what the colonel said was disgusting and shows he has no idea what a captive would go through and have to say to stay alive. But in one aspect i think that maybe if we lead the taliban to believe that the soldier wanted to leave his post cause he believed in their cause or didnt believe in the war, a deserter, maybe that would stop the taliban from killing him or maybe eventually let him go and be free. theres a SFC i know who was one of Bergdahls sgts (at the time). this kid is dead now. what the taliban do is when they have you in their clutches, if soldiers try to save him. they'll cut the prisoners arms and legs off (head as well) and disperse them throughout the area. Ive been deployed there and its not pretty. heres something my sgt told me: if capture is inevitable at the moment, make your peace with god and shoot urrself. better one shot than have your limbs cut off and finally beheaded
