This video is a little overview of the notable personalities of pro-wrestling's "golden age" when it was one of the biggest television programs across the US. Due to cheap production costs, original programming and, of course, the unforgettable characters and amazing athletes, pro-wrestling was a phenomenon as the TV craze swept the nation in the post-war years.

Included in this video (in chronological order): Gorgeous George entering the ring, Antonino Rocca vs. Don Leo Jonathan, Wilbur Snyder, Bruno Sammartino vs. Freddie Blassie, Johnny Valentine interview and match against Buddy Rogers, Bobo Brazil vs. Johnny Barend, DuMont Network (which featured the first national pro-wrestling show), Verne Gagne vs. Hans Schmidt, Gorgeous George on a TV show, Sweet Daddy Siki and Sailor Art Thomas confronted by the Fabulous Kangaroos, Ray Stevens, Rocca and Rikki Starr going nutty, Lou Thesz suplexing Gene Kiniski, Freddie Blassie on the Dick Van Dyke show, Fritz Von Erich, Killler Kowalski vs. Eduoard Carpentier, The Shiek, Pat O'Connor demonstrating his O'Connor Roll.

**I understand I left out many people and perhaps included others too much. I am an amateur pro-wrestling historian and amateur videographer. Please view my website if you'd like to access more information about early TV pro-wrestling and its practitioners.**

  • This is wrestling at its best. So sad the business is now perverted & glamourized with cartoon charcters & story lines. Nothing beats Buddy Rogers, Johnny Valentine, Bobo, The ORIGINAL Sheik, Sammartino & I can go on. AND its great to know them as humans. Met Blassie at a health fest in NYC. Kindest, warmest person. He loved it when you notice him. You felt he was grateful you knew him. Thanks for those classic memories....

  • @clovisman Age is just a number man. its never too late to live your dream.

  • I grew up watching this marvelous spectacle in the 60s...it was a wonderful part of my childhood and pre-adolescent years. At age 53 I actually stepped into the squared circle as "the oldest rookie in pro wrestling history". I still love this business and appreciate the memories and friendships that it has given me.

  • thank you for showing this video. I've been a wrestling fan since 1983 ( at Age 15) and I've allways Wrestling and enjoyed watching the golden age of Wrestling.. i have a lot of respect for theses guys.

  • Wrestling Scout:

Thank you for responding on the music. I am a nostalgic fan of the golden age. From 1963, through 1970, I attended most of the shows that the classic Los Angeles Olympic Auditorium. I hobnobbed, as a kid, with Freddie Blassie, the Destroyer, and Mr. Moto. Ray "Thunder" Stern was my first mentor in life and supervised my early weightlifting. In the 1980s, I was the lawyer for Red Bastien when he was West Coast Agent for the WWF. You are doing great work
