In September 2009, fashion designer, athlete, and former Project Runway contestant came to New Orleans to do two things: [1] to support the NO/AIDS Task Force's 20th annual fundraising walk, and [2] to promote his new HIV/AIDS education campaign, "Living Positive by Design". His media team asked if I'd like to conduct an interview, and although it's not the sort of thing I'd ordinarily do, I happily agreed.
Jack and the PR team traveling with him were great sports, agreeing to sit outside under a sweltering sun at a coffee house on a busy street corner. Despite the heat, noise, and distractions, Jack was charming and talkative; he probably would've stuck around for another hour if I hadn't forced him and his friends back into the air-conditioning.
Jack may not be a doctor, but he's got plenty of cred, and his "Living Positive by Design" campaign -- which encourages HIV-positive individuals to build strong relationships with their doctors -- is a welcome addition to the broader salvo of HIV/AIDS education and prevention initiatives.
