5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe on the Bristolian 17-04-10 and 18-04-10

A record breaking trip by Castle 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe. This was the first non-stop run from London to Bristol and return - and what a run it was.

We first see some modern traction in the way of a couple of loudly ticking 66'. 66031 and 66173 are there before collecting their trains and leaving in the evening.

Then comes the main event. 5043 storms through Didcot with a whistle. There were a group of 100 or so who were anxious to see an HST depart - which you can see departing in the foreground in our first shot.

I was very disappointed in the station staff on the platform edge. My tripod leg was behind the line clearly by around 6 inches. The staff refused to allow me to be BEHIND the line as the steamer approaches. Three staff had a go at me - I wasn't happy!!

Next comes a very shaky shot from just down the road - in a car park near McDonalds. We had problems with our monopod last time round (chasing 35028 Clan Line on the Hants and Berks.) This time, whilst also trying to take photographs, the film didn't come out quite as well as what I had originally hoped.

We missed the train in the evening for a get together with friends - I would've seen the train though if there was no meeting.

So the film jumps onto the 18th April. Another class 66 (66024) stands in the yard. That later moved (as to where is anyones guess) before 5043, now running it's train back to Solihull, stopped in the station. We were not expecting the loco to stop in the station, and so for this reason, we only have one video.

These clips were very long, and I tried to edit them down as much as possible, however, in the process of this, I cut a couple of long but still very nice shots.
