Check out the youtube video titled "Adequate Parking at UNCC".
The simple fact is, a large number of students are very lazy and do not want to park anywhere but right next to the building where their class is. There is plenty of parking people and if you don't want to use your legs to walk to class, ride the free shuttle, which in my opinion is a waste of gas and money, this school is not that spread out.
I started UNCC in the Fall of 2010. Yes, the parking is absurd. Mention the terrible parking to anyone who works there and the response is, "You have to get here earlier to get a parking space." WTF? Somebody has to be the last one to get there. How the hell does 'getting there earlier' solve the problem of not enough parking spaces for the number of students?
Well guess what? I am tired of fighting for a spot even with 100's of new spots, so I haven't paid for a new pass and I'm parking at bloom. Even If I get towed, I still will pay less than parking on campus. Plus, they'res always spots off campus!
The parking on campus is absolutely horrendous, I can't believe the outrageous costs they're charging for the jack-crap parking I have to have... Honestly I was on crutches last week and the fact that I usually had to have my friend drive me to my dorm, drop me off, and then go find parking really far away ticked me off. I shouldn't have to park 15 minutes away from my dorm and walk there- especially at night and stuff like that
Yes - it's more accurate than Mr. Caton wishes to reveal. Now he's putting his parking deck (two year project) on top of 60% of a Facilities lot, forcing the staff to those lots competition as well. To top it off, he's trying to get a gate intalled there too and charge an additional 100+ dollars to park. To boot, the parking fee has gone up every year I have been here since 2003.
There is no parking problem at uncc. There is, however, a laziness problem.

Well, when only 27% of your students live on campus what do you expect?
