ahh... so it's just an interface to manipulate other effects? I assumed it was some kind of multi effect designed for vocals. I'm going to have to look into how he's using this thing, because peter murphy is kinda stealing the show here.

That is an old version of the Korg Kaoss Pad. It's a dynamic effects interface, and very good for implementing and controlling multiple effects at one time.
