This is the way many people think ABA is done today. But ABA has evolved. Please see Teaching colors-contemporary ABA for example of how ABA has evolved.

  • @bren49765 I don't know if anyone has studied that specifically, but the key to why things have improved I think is that recently with the invention of Criterion referenced assessment (like the ABBYLLS,) there is a better prognosis for adulthood as the basic skills needed for life are taught more intensely and more functionally at an earlier age. ABA still isn't a magic bullet.

  • We know that ABA works in a mechanical fashion - it does help with regards to black&white thinking, how to get a result, how to give a specific answer but can anyone point me to studies that show an improved quality of life in adulthood for the kids that underwent ABA in the 1980's/1990's?

  • "NO!" Screaming at the kid? Can't believe we thought that was ok back then?
