I'm with ohpiffle here, you may be playing an "an improvisational avante garde piece with advanced harmonic stuctures" but it just doesn't sound particularly interesting, emotive or dancable.
Don't we want synths and sampling to make music more exciting? Not fill it with tedious, repetetive grooves!

In hindsight, I suppose my original comment wasn't particularly constructive, sorry to inject any negativity.
But I still think there could be a little more cohesion in the piece on the vid.

I'm not a professor, I was making a supposition and used 'as' in place of 'if'. I *would* give that mark & comment if I worked as a professor at Berklee.
I am currently experimenting/ learning with an EWI 4000s. No recordings that I'm proud enough of to put on the net yet. One day though, and I'll welcome all comments.
I agree with mightlife, nice hornblowing, but samples do NOT fit with music.. do you guys actually know what the samples are SAYING.. if you listened to them before chopping them up maybe that would have helped.
I can understand the experimental element but I would rather listen to exactly what you played minus the synth and sample elements. To me this is a good example of the use of high tec equipment for no actual benefit.

The samples are from a Roland S-760 sample CD I've been using for years. When triggering the phrases, I'm controlling pitch, volume, speed and attempting a percussive instrument role.
This is an improvisational avante garde piece with advanced harmonic stuctures. On Synthophones, we could have played anything. Fully trained in all the rules, we chose to break them. There is no right or wrong way to experience art. I appreciate your honest comments. :)

That says a lot about the audience - out of touch college kids or beardstroking muso-lectuals. Hehe, different tastes.
'D. can do better.' referred to the mark I would give to the work as a Berklee Professor.
All good though, just not what I would do given the possibilities of a wind controller (or three) and MIDI.

oh, I didn't realize you're a Prof. and a windsynthesist musician. Which one do you play? I'd love to hear your music.

Sorry, but those vocal samples sound very ropey!
Even as some kind of experimental jazz, it sounds like a bit of a joke IMO.

aww, don't be sorry. I've been in this business long enough to know everyone has different tastes. I was going for a little bit of humor. It's sounds like the audience understood :)
BTW, who's D. ?
