Trying to demonstrate slight differences in sound coloration between
AKAI MPC1000 , E-MU SP1200 and AKAI S950 samplers.
Also demonstrating JJ OS2XL sample edit effect feature : "downsampling" to 12bit ( note a true downsampling but an emulation Effect) on MPC1000 .
you may experience difficulties in distiguishing slight sound variations from sampler to sampler due to Youtube's compression. I will be uploading the uncomressed wavs as soon as i will have more time. Stay tuned and keep making music :) PEACE, JazZ

  • S950 wins for me. can't beat the Bouncy lady break!

  • @vegunited06 Pleasure- Bouncy Lady break , that's right :) S950 is probably the most versitile when comes to sampling at a variable frequencies , one can sample at a full frequency and ( clean) or going down to extremly dirty ... it doesnt add almost any artifacts when pitching up or down , but lots of ppl love the SP sound for its repitching artifacts . what makes you like S950 sound on this test?

  • @jazzroom hard to say really, just the dirt, but not in-your-face dirt, and yeah I agree the s950 doesn't do that pitch artifacts thing at all.... oh there is one more thing though. I love the colour of all the old akais. that classic cream/grey mix. :) bad ass beasts. I can't compare to the SP cause I've never played on one but I have heard on in person (from some one elses studio) and they kick so hard!!

  • @vegunited06 yea , AKAI's are great i've got S950 classic and the S5000 late 90's that can do way to much and sound great aswell ... its got even a downsampling function .. so i can get the sound of S950 on S5000 with downsampling to 12 bits! S5000 has crazy 128 polyphony, etc- incredibile sampler! but SP1200 is just so much fun to play with - the faders are pure joy to use when sampling - sequencer maby basic , but is easy to use and fun.that's why i start most of the beat ideas on SP1200

  • Both SP and 950 benefit greatly (950 especially) by having a "hot" signal when sampling. The 950 really comes to life this way. You get the crunch, the punch and all that old feel. I would really like to hear you try this with those beats. Going straight in at default sampling frequency is fine. But having said that the i almost always prefer the sound of the SP. It kills off so much of the detail, leaving mostly the higher impact sounds, giving it that punch people love. Good job, keep it up!

  • Bouncy Laaaady break hehe, lovit

  • a950 wins for me. can't beat the Bouncy lady break!
