  • hey man! i really enjoy your videos , only one question

at 3 min 39, how come you got star light at f22 and 1/8s ? :D Because even at ISO 5000 its impossible to get any starlight at 1/8s and f22. Maybe you wrote by accident the wrong exposure. let me know.thanks.

  • Ah, our bad. We forgot about that one, most likely it's a typo. We don't have the original RAW file anymore so we're unable to give the exact exposure setting, sorry.

  • Thanks! Last question, you said it is difficult to meter with the old pc lenses, does it mean the spot metering on d700/d3 with the older lens will not be accurate? Or will it not meter at all? I am going to use it on film but would like to know if they can be mounted on digital as well. Thanks for your time.

  • If using the lens normally, no problem metering. If the lens is shifted, the camera will be unable to meter and tell if the subject is in focus. Normally with all PC / PC-E lenses, at maximum shift degrees, it gets darker (do not ask, we do not know why).

It will mount on all cameras and meter on digital SLR's that have a built-in AI ring (D7000, D300s, D700, and D3-Series). It will meter on high end film SLR's. No metering on low class film and digital SLR's.

  • this is an ugly lens < cant afford it ;(

  • Very well explained! Thanks a lot! @Lilkiwiguy87

  • Yes, that is correct, no tilting / swinging capability. Older PC lenses only have the shifting capability that is ideal for correcting the perspective without tilting the camera and / or for panoramic photographs.

  • I was referring to getting the ais version when I said "manual" version, my bad. I know they are all manual focus. So without the tilting capability, does this mean you cannot control the depth of field with the ais? Thanks. @Lilkiwiguy87

  • FYI #1: All PC / PC-E lenses are manual focus lenses.

FYI #2: There are 4 variations of 35mm PC's, which one are you speaking of?

If you are speaking of the latest 35mm ƒ/2.8 AIS PC... To be frank with you, it is in a class of its own.

The 35mm does not have tilting capability, no ED and Nano Crystal coatings, lacks CPU contacts for metering (very difficult to meter with old PC lenses), and is not sealed against dust and moisture.

If you never used a PC / PC-E lenses, rent them out first.

  • Hi, how different are these lenses to the old 35mm pc nikkor? Sorry I never had any experience using any of these type of lenses. I am planning on getting the manual version. Thanks.
